How To Make Homemade Pumpkin Spice Lattes

It’s that time of year again! The temperature is dropping, the leaves are changing, apple orchards are letting you pick-your-own, and pumpkin-flavored beverages are back! Grabbing that PSL everyday can add up, but fear not! We have the perfect homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte recipe that you’ll be brewing for months to come.

The History of Pumpkin Spice

Before we get into the recipe, let’s take a look at the interesting history of spices that make up everyone’s favorite fall drink. It may shock you to know that pumpkin spice is not a new concept. In fact, traces of the spices used have been found on pottery dating back 3,500 years! Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves typically make up the modern-day pumpkin spice mixture, and were traditionally found in India, Indonesia, and China. These spices were wildly desirable outside of their homelands, leading the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe to trade with the producing countries. Eventually, the spices made their way to North America where they continue to be widely used in modern-day recipes. For more information on spices, look up the Spice Trade.
